Homeschooling: Can we teach our own kids?

Whenever I say I homeschool my children, others will say "Is that possible?" or "Your kids are nice but not mine." or "I am not patient enough to teach my own children" or "I can't teach." or hundreds kinds of other positive and negative responds.

Believe me... those questions were also haunting my mind and even discouraging me to do the homeschooling about a year ago, but then I decided to challenge myself to give the best for my 4-year-old daughter. I know quite well what my daughter likes to do, so I know what can interest her more.

One friend of mine said some words that encouraged me well, "Your daughter is just 4, she only needs not even one-tenth of your knowledge. Why should you give her to somebody else to learn? Why don't you try love her more by teaching her?"

Bang... my friend did shoot me at the right point of my brain, she is absolutely correct, 4-year-old kid only needs to know a very small portion of our knowledge. We are neither teaching scientists nor engineers. We are teaching preschoolers and kindergartners!!!

If you are in doubt to start homeschooling, so was I. However, I believe it is not wrong to give it a try, especially for a very young kid. We can still return our children to formal school when the homeschooling seems not a good way of learning for them.

Why don't you also give it a try?
